Brian Dickens Asks, “What Exactly Is NASCAR Legends?”

Brian Dickens here with a quick summary of what NASCAR Legends is, and why it’s such a great introduction to the world of racing for just about anyone.

Since the early Spring of 1992, at the fabled Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR Legends have been delivering both exciting racing for fans, and unique opportunities for racers, in unprecedented fashion.

As a fun and affordable “spec” racing class, NASCAR Legends serves as a beacon in the racing world, because it’s one of the only circuits in which anyone can participate.

So it’s also no surprise that NASCAR Legend Cars have catapulted into one of the fastest-growing segments in motorsports of any kind.

Let’s take a moment to look at what a Legend Car is, and then we’ll dive into the four different Legends classifications / divisions as well.

WHAT IS A LEGENDS CAR?

A NASCAR Legends Car is actually a 5/8ths scale fiberglass car, that is essentially just a fully-fendered, modifieds edition of famous NASCAR vehicles from days past. You’ll see legendary cars driven by popular drivers like Speedy Thompson, Buck Baker, and, Fireball Roberts, and some incredible drivers got their start in Legends, including Joey Logano, Chris Buescher, and Kyle Busch.

It’s a pretty impressive lineup of race cars for the Legends tier of NASCAR racing, and one that really delivers a sense of pride, nostalgia, and most certainly inspiration for the drivers participating in Legends.

It’s also important to hit home the point that NASCAR Legends is one of the few levels of NASCAR (really in ALL of racing to be honest) where the car can’t make up for what a driver lacks.

Legends cars are great, raw, barebones cars, where you feel everything in the car. So on the one hand it can be extremely challenging for the driver, but on the other, it’s a great way to hone your skills, because you get no help from the car.

HOW IS THE NASCAR LEGENDS SYSTEM STRUCTURED?

With four different divisions, there truly is something for everyone in Legends.

First is the Young Lions Division, specifically for drivers between the ages of twelve and sixteen.

Next up you’ll find the Semi-Pro Division, essentially the novice class. This division is for racers new to the sport, and is basically the starting point for any driver seventeen and older.

The Pro Division of course exists for more experienced drivers, and provides a different level of racing from the rest of the four tiers.

Finally, the Masters’ Division was created for drivers who are forty years old and above.

One special part of Legends racing is that the cars are all the same, regardless of which division one races in. That means when it comes to NASCAR Legends racing, as I eluded to above, the driver makes all the difference!
